LEASING: FUNDAMENTALS, ANALYSIS, and NEGOTIATION
The objective of LEASING: FUNDEMENTALS, ANALYSIS, and NEGOTIATION is to provide students with the basic skills and tools that are critical to understanding leasing and driving income from real estate assets. The class will begin with an overview of leasing terms and structures, along with basic lease analysis. Students will also read a lease and work backwards to write a letter of intent. Following the introductory classes, students will work/compete against each other on mock lease negotiations focusing on office leases due to their complexity. By the end of the half semester, students should be able to read and understand a typical lease, evaluate lease economics, and understand the basics of lease negotiations.
The course is structured primarily as lecture-based for the early classes and then a series of negotiation exercises for the later classes. The final exam will be an individual mock lease exercis
