Course Syllabus

Welcome From: Harold Varmus

I am looking forward to meeting all of you---this year’s participants in Science and Society---in about two weeks, on Wednesday, September 4th,at 4:10 PM in Room 1000 of the Fairchild Building.

As you know, this course is conducted as a weekly, 2.5 hour participatory seminar. I will do some of the talking---too much, my spouse might claim---but every student will be expected to come to class prepared to respond to the assigned materials by asking questions and voicing opinions.

In general, you will receive assignments as Word documents by email at least a week in advance, and the assignments will also be posted on the course site on Canvas. The assignment file will include some remarks from me about the goal of the session; information about the assigned reading (or viewing); and additional, optional, but relevant material that you may wish to view now or in the future.

Let me know if you have questions that cannot wait until Sept 4th . Or, if necessary, contact Ellie Siddens in the department office.
