Requesting an Account

Individual accounts

Shared (named) accounts

All personal or individual Zoom accounts are UNI-authenticated. For this reason, only the email used for one’s UNI login can be associated with an individual Zoom account.

To request an individual Zoom pro account, submit a ticket.

Shared, or named, accounts must be linked to a Columbia-owned or Columbia affiliates-owned address: e.g. *@columbia.edu, *@barnard.edu, etc.

Preparing for Your First Zoom Session

If you haven't used Zoom before, please join the session a few minutes early so you can complete the first-time setup activities. You can avoid these activities by pre-installing and testing Zoom using the Zoom test page. If you've already installed Zoom but are unsure if it is working, this site can verify your voice, video, and sound are all functioning properly.

Joining a Meeting

There are two primary ways for Columbia instructors to hold Zoom sessions:

Using Zoom (links provided directly by your instructor or department via email or announcement in CourseWorks)
CourseWorks: Zoom Class Sessions

Follow the below instructions to join your meeting.

Using Zoom Link

If your instructor has provided you with a Zoom link, simply click the link to begin the session.

CourseWorks: Zoom Class Sessions

Log in to CourseWorks.
Navigate to the section of your upcoming class.
Click the Zoom Class Sessions button found in the left-hand navigation panel. If you do not see a button for Zoom Class Sessions, please follow the Conferences instructions.
Once you click on Zoom Class Sessions, you will see a list under Upcoming Meetings of future class session. If you do not see a session listed under Upcoming Meetings, please follow the Conferences instructions.
Click Join to enter a class at the appropriate time.
